Status and roadmap

This is not a release but a working foundation. What is done, what is in progress, what is already our own and where the project goes next.

Status as of 24 October 2026

What is done and what is in progress

Works

  • Skirmish, free-for-all: 1–3 AI clans, four levels and an adaptive mode
  • Three maps, a test range and five planets
  • The captain, the console, the tactical view, driving any warbot
  • Factory designer, 100 research topics, building capture
  • Economy from mine to alloy, repairs, wreck salvage
  • Our own sound and music, the “Glass: instrument” interface
  • Main menu — a hangar: spotlights, welding, a warbot comes to life on the podium

In progress

  • Clan AI is partly done. Late game: the AI hoards crystals without spending them and hauls too little from the central mines
  • Living Alien hulls are available to every clan, but the AI does not build them yet
  • On The Pass one clan does not take the generators of its own passes
  • Pathfinding from a map corner to the centre sometimes causes a hitch
  • Balance of economy and armies is being re-measured after the new combat rules
Own models

Warbots are moving to our own

To make the game independent of the original files, the warbots are built anew: first mock-ups and drawings, then models generated in Blender by scripts. Since 23–24 October the working build has our own hulls, turrets and guns.

What was made for the project and what comes from the original

The working build can pick up models, effects and sounds from my copy of Parkan 2. Only our own files will be published.

Own

Part of the project

  • All code: simulation, rendering, interface, AI, tests
  • Models of hulls, turrets and guns — Blender scripts
  • The smelter and the conveyor gallery — buildings the original did not have
  • Sound and music synthesized in code
  • Icons and effect textures; 13 CC0 textures from ambientCG
  • Fonts Fira Sans Condensed and JetBrains Mono (SIL OFL)
Only in my personal build

From my copy of Parkan 2

  • The original buildings with rooms, doors and curtains
  • The hero captain and his animation
  • Alien guns and some hull details
  • Shot and shield effects
  • Advisor voices, some sounds, music
  • Names: Parkan, the Architects, characters of the universe
Roadmap

Two roads to release

Where Parkan 3 goes depends on the answer from GameXP and Fulqrum Publishing. The game is being prepared for both outcomes, and both roads lead to Steam. How the first stretch went is told in the dev diary.

Done

A playable foundation

  • Skirmish against the AI on three maps, five planets
  • The captain, the tactical view, driving any warbot
  • Designer, laboratory, economy, building capture
  • Our own sound and interface, the first own models

The rights holders' answer

A request has been sent to the Parkan rights holders for permission to develop the game in their universe. “Yes” — the project takes the first road. “No” or silence — the second.

Road 1 · Permission granted

A full game on Steam

Polishing every aspect and a Steam release.

  1. 1

    Polishing what exists

Economy and army balance, a smarter AI, performance, graphics, sound and interface.

  2. 2

    What a full game needs

Saving and loading a match, a tutorial, control settings, more maps and planets.

  3. 3

    The Parkan universe

A story campaign and multiplayer. The groundwork for networking is laid: the simulation computes a battle identically on different computers.

  4. 4

A Steam page and player testing

A demo or early access, feedback, fixes.

Goal: a Steam releaseWith the rights holders' permission and with the assets they approve.
Road 2 · Refusal or no answer

A finished game of our own

The game will be finished and released on Steam, but entirely on our own — from models to name.

  1. 1

Own models instead of the originals

Under way: own hulls, all turrets and all clan guns are already in the build. Next — the remaining hulls, buildings and the captain.

  2. 2

    Own effects and sound

Own shot and shield effects, own advisor voices and music instead of the originals.

  3. 3

    Own name and own universe

A new name instead of Parkan, own clans and characters instead of the Architects, Knux and other names from the original.

  4. 4

    Polishing

Balance, AI, performance, saving a match.

  5. 5

    Steam release

A finished game with not a single file and not a single name from Parkan 2.

Goal: a Steam releaseUnder its own name, on its own models, effects and sound.
